Data Availability (DA)

We view DA simply as:

  • External: Data is stored on another blockchain, committee, or a centralized server. This comes with varying levels of risk.

  • On-chain: The layer stores their data (or a representation of that data) on the Bitcoin L1 and can reconstruct their state based on the data available on Bitcoin. Bitcoin full nodes can verify L2 state transitions.
